Huawei officially announced the much anticipated Ascend P6 at the company’s event in London today. According to yesterday’s poll, the phone has a demand of 2 million potential buyers. Based on the pictures Huawei released via a press release, the device will be available in three different colors. That includes black, white and for the ladies, pink. As far as specs go, the Chinese manufacturer packed in a lot considering how thin the phone is. Here they are:
- Operating System: Android Jellybean 4.2.2 with Huawei’s Emotion UI
- Screen: 4.7-inch 720p in-cell LCD
- Cameras: 8MP back-facing, 1080p video and LED flash, 5MPix front-facing
- Processor: Cortex-A9 quad-core clocked at 1.5GHz
- RAM: 2GB
- Weight and thickness: 120 grams, 6.18mm thick
- Battery: 2000 mAh
- Memory: 8GB expandable via MicroSD internal storage
- Connectivity: HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
- Additional: Dual-SIM cards support and FM Radio
Despite the fact that the phone doesn’t support 4G LTE (which is mainly because it won’t come with any US carrier LTE plan), the device’s chip and RAM make the phone very speedy for today’s standards and features a premium-quality built as the entire handset is covered by brushed-looking metal. The silver band which covers the black version of the P6′s edges, are almost identical to the metal-band which surrounds the iPhone 4/4S/5.
The distinguishing feature of the P6 is how thin it is, as it’s only 6.18mm; classifying it as the thinnest smartphone currently in the market. Another feature that piqued our interest is the front-facing camera. Huawei seems to be one of the first manufacturer who puts effort into the front camera as the Ascend P6 features a 5 MP lens. Of course, mega pixels is not the main key point of a camera so we shall see about it when we get our hands-on the actual phone.
In addition, the P6 has a beautiful 4.7-inch HD LCD screen which looks gorgeous and has the latest version of Android on-board in conjunction with Huawei’s Emotion UI.
The device will hit China’s shelves this month while Western Europe will be getting it in July through a great variety of carriers (confirmed) including, Telefonica, Orange, H3G, O2, Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk, Media Markt, Saturn, TIM as well as online retailers Amazon and CDiscount.
